Often, the Music Machine contains factual musically-based features including:

• The Artist Profile. We spend twenty minutes detailing the life and career of an artist or group. Of course, we play their music as well!
• Chart Countdown. We take a specific week from a year and count down the top 20 from it, using many jingles and music segments between the songs!
• "Not Now, I'm Listening". The songs included in this popular feature are often suggested by listeners. This is where we pay more attention to the lyrics of a song than we otherwise would. For example, the lyrics could be of a romantic nature or perhaps tell an interesting story.
• "The Ones That Got Away". I go into the vaults of my record library and dig out a song which, for some obscure reason, never made the chart!
• "Documentaries. Approximately every six weeks, the entire Music Machine show is devoted to a documentary. Previous documentaries have included "The History of the Number 1 Hit Single", "Banned by Auntie Beeb" (songs banned by the bBC), "Songs the Beatles Gave to Others" and "The Abba Story".
